Bike(s) of choice?
Due to a new house without a garage (stupid idea that!) I've had to get rid of some bikes. I'm down to one bike, an XO-2, I chose this as a bit of a do 'it all' bike and I'm loving it!
Its not all bad though, I do get to pick any bike from the feet to use and my choice bike would have to be the 69er Top Fuel! It may not have the technology of the new EX or as light as the Carbon Hi Fi but for some reason I find it the most fun to ride. I must admit I cant wait to ride the new Remedy 9.
Favorite place to ride?
This is a hard choice but I think Afan Glencorwig has to win on the amount of times I have chosen to go ride there in my own time. Great trails, great cafe, great food and great people add up to the best riding venue in the UK! IMO.
I have to mention my local woods at Woburn for XC and Chicksands for a good mix of XC, shore, jumps, dual and 4X.
Favorite Event of the year?
This has to be Twentyfour12 2006. After launching our 2007 full sus. range to our dealers we went straight into our first attempt at a 24 and 12 hour event. Despite being there to demo and provide race support I decided to race in the team category along with Andy, Trippy and Paul, all Trek employees. The twist was we were riding singlespeed! Needless to say what followed was a mix of great fun, hard work, lots of pain and a lack of sleep! It make for the hardest but most fun event i have ever worked or raced at.
Was it worth it? Well we won the singlespeed category and came 7th among everyone on geared bikes so I would say, yes, well worth the effort!
So, you think I just do demos?
Along side attending the demo events with the demo truck and trailer, I also have to keep the 40+ demo bikes maintained. In the summer months this isn't too much of a chore but here in the UK the winter can give the bikes a really hard time. The bikes need to be washed and serviced after every event which can take up a lot of my time in the week.
I also have to maintain this site, build bikes for shows etc, give teck training to staff and dealers, help with dealer and consumer shows and finally give race support at race events.
This all adds up to a lot of work but when I get to spend days out in the sun riding and talking about bikes, it makes it all worth it.
Some photos I've taken on flickr and films I've helped make on Youtube.
